The year is 1947. A man sketches the silhouette of a car in the sand of a Welsh beach. That car is the Land Rover. Tough, intrepid, it goes on to change history, mastering all manner of terrain and capturing hearts around the world.

Decades of innovation have taken Land Rover Above and Beyond.

They’ve navigated uncharted territory with a firm grasp of where they started – the unique marriage of capability and composure, which distinguishes every vehicle bearing the Land Rover badge.

The original Land Rover was revealed to the world at the Amsterdam motor show on 30 April 1948.

Designed as Britain’s answer to the Jeep, the Land Rover was tough, basic and could go anywhere. Things stayed that way for many years, until the arrival of the Range Rover in 1970, at which point Land Rover started to move upmarket.

Land Rover have been focused on making vehicles as efficient as possible, having a strong history of efficient technologies: from active suspension lowering to intelligent stop-start.

The current vehicles continue this journey with innovative technologies including lightweight electronic power steering, aluminum body structures, and new Ingenium engines.

THE NEW LAND ROVER DEFENDER

The new model represents 70 years of innovation and improvement; honouring the vehicle’s history for rugged solidity while thoroughly remaining a Defender for the 21st century.

The Land Rover Defender has always been a symbol of strength and the new model is the toughest and most capable Land Rover vehicle yet, combining a new body structure with all-new technologies and proven hardware to create a Defender that is fit for the 21st century.

The new Defender is built for adventurous hearts and curious minds, for those who know the value of community and strive to make a difference.

The unmistakable silhouette is familiar yet new. It looks tough and is tough but designed with purpose and engineered to excite. Iconic in name, shape and capability, the Defender can be personalized to allow owners to make the most of their world.

Across seven decades of pioneering innovation, Land Rover vehicles have earned a unique place in the hearts of explorers, humanitarian agencies and adventurous families across the world. Proven in the harshest environments on earth, the new Defender maintains this bloodline.

Driven by a passion and respect for the original, the new Defender delivers transformational breadth of capability and advanced all-terrain technologies to redefine adventure for the 21st century, while remaining true to the pioneering spirit that has been a Land Rover brand hallmark for 71 years.

The 2022 Land Rover Defender might look reminiscent of the 1950s original, but in reality it is a completely modern, high-tech off-roader with unique curb appeal. A trio of engines is offered—a turbocharged four-cylinder, a turbo-and-supercharged six-cylinder, and a supercharged V-8—and all come standard with four-wheel drive.

The Defender can be had in two-door 90 and four-door 110 body styles, and advanced-duty off-roading equipment is available on all models, including an adjustable air suspension and locking differentials. There aren’t many SUVs that are as capable as the Defender, and they mostly come from Land Rover’s lineup.

Some may consider the Jeep Wrangler a cheaper alternative, but the Defender has it beat when it comes to on-road refinement and available luxury appointments.
