To spend Christmas day on the beach is something more than 90% of people would like to experience at least once in a lifetime. Residing in Pattaya as an ex-pat it’s very easy to take this for granted and maybe gravitate to a traditional pub or even stay at home for Christmas.
Some like to see it as an opportunity to perfect and present a feast of dishes from the home oven, but for me, leaving things to the professionals is best for everyone involved.
However, REm decided this year was the one to hit the beach.
In Thailand I’m pretty sure Santa comes by boat, so it’s only fitting that you get yourself to the beach on Christmas Say. Well, that’s my excuse.
Pattaya has a plethora of great pubs and restaurants, with most serving their own versions or attempts at a Christmas dinner but this year REm’s choice was Coast Beach Club & Bistro within Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort in Naklua, North Pattaya.
The motto at Coast Beach Club & Bistro is ‘Sip, Savour, Lounge, and Linger, stay all day and move with your mood’ and to me that makes for a great Christmas day.
To get you in the mood entertainment was provided with live music from the incredible Big to the Future Band singing and playing swing classics with a modern twist and, yes, Santa Claus made an appearance too.
The Christmas day menu at Coast gave you three options to choose from:
First was your choice of starter with the option of pan-seared foie gras, eggs benedict with Parma ham and black truffle or crab cakes. Then on to soups where you could choose from a Manhattan seafood chowder, a mushroom soup with truffle ravioli or a more local style tom yum goong with river prawns.
The last choice came with mains where you could have a traditional roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings, grilled Australian Angus T-bone steak or a whole Maine lobster grilled, poached or thermidor.
Holidays are meant for feasting after all and the menu didn’t end there with an open buffet serving a wide range of delicious food throughout the day including… seafood on ice, sushi, sashimi antipastos, cold cuts, Christmas desserts… and much, much more.
All of this in a five-star beachfront resort for only Bt1,500, festive cocktails were flowing, and we indulged in food we would never normally eat on this special occasion. After experiencing the ease of dining out on Christmas day at Coast, we may never look back.
A delicious, stress-free meal was this year’s best present of all.
