Thailand further relaxed its restrictions on Covid prevention as the new infection rates has been pretty much zero last weeks. Apart from few new cases which almost no exception has been detected on returnees from various countries who has been placed in mandatory quarantine.
This is a very positive news especially considering all the warnings from various experts who warned against opening shopping malls and other businesses. To date, there has been not a single new case linked to these additional relaxation measures which took place couple weeks ago.
Last and final relaxation is set to take place by end of June allowing all remaining businesses etc. to open to (new) normal practices.
“Thailand has done well to contain the coronavirus outbreak, with the country reopening businesses and easing restrictions,” says Chang Wei Liang, a macro strategist at DBS Bank in Singapore. “This has given investors’ confidence that tourism can recover. On top of this, GDP fell a seasonally adjusted 2.2% in the first quarter compared with the previous three months, better than the median estimate of a 4.2% contraction in a Bloomberg survey of economists.
However, it is still unclear how the incoming international flight arrivals will be, but fair to assume there will some sort of restrictions in place. Like many other countries, Thailand is negotiating special arrangements with countries with minimal Covid situation to lessen the burden this has bring among all of us. Which countries and what kind of arrangements there will be is to be seen.
