In place of the postponed Wonderfruit Festival, The Fields welcomes a pop-up celebration for the people of Thailand: Moobaan Wonder.

A season-long village festival celebrating Thai art, culture, and nature.

December 4–6, 11–13, and 25–17 2020, and January 8–10 and 15–17 2021.

Scratch First, the creative minds behind the annual pioneering festival Wonderfruit, return to their favored stomping grounds with an all-new event series for the cooler months: Moobaan Wonder by Wonderfruit.

The new project takes shape in 100 rai of The Fields at Siam Country Club, Pattaya as a season-long village festival of Thai music, art, workshops, food, drinks, family activities, markets, and nature.

Moobaan Wonder shines a bright light on the tastes and talents of Thailand for five weekends of December 2020 and January 2021 in an affordable package that all locals can enjoy.

Tickets start from just 690 THB for a day pass, 2,190 THB for a weekend, or 6,800 THB for a full season pass to all five weekends.

Each weekend at Moobaan Wonder is different, with new lineups and experiences from a rotating cast of local talents. Through the extended season, The Fields will host more than 200 DJs, bands, and performers, 40 hands-on workshops, 40 food outlets, and 80 Thai design stores from throughout the country.

The first weekend from 4–6 Dec sees performances from DOTT, Hugo, Sarayu, Sunju Hargun, Supersonic, Twopee Southside, and Yellow Fang on sustainable stages and innovative venues throughout the space.

Weekend two from 11–13 Dec welcomes Burin, Lukthung Trio and Singto Numchok, Sabai Sabai Radio, The Jukks, Transport, and a special live-streamed appearance by New York’s Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy.

The third weekend from 25–27 Dec stars Greasy Cafe, H 3 F, Isaac Aesili, Noxnoi, and a live stream by London’s Trojan Sound System. The main stage, designed by sustainable artist Eric Tobua, will be set alight every weekend in December by the glitz and glitter of Tiffany’s Show Pattaya, the longest-running transgender cabaret performance in Asia. Artists, architects, and designers apply their artistic touches to the lands in between, where Satit Raksasri, Eric Tobua, PO-D Architects, Sanitas Studio, and Bangkok Project Studio collaborate on sustainable venues and immersive installations.

Families can pass their weekends at Moobaan Wonder with a programme of activities for all ages, be it Little Fields with their mobile farm experience, or workshops taking participants through ceramics, home composting, natural dyes, planting, painting, cooking, and crafting from upcycled materials.

A diverse program of unique initiatives burst onto The Fields for Moobaan Wonder, each an investment by Scratch First in the experience of the season.

Fruitfull, the food platform launched by Wonderfruit during the lockdown conditions of mid-2020, finds its first-ever home in The Fields at a reimagined lakeside restaurant in the heart of Theatre Stage—a permanent, undulating bamboo structure by MPD Studio.

The converted stage becomes a platform for Fruitfull Presents: Mae Oui Ama, an all-day café and bar by chef Prin, Mint, and the team behind the always-booked out Samrub for Thai.

After dark, traditional yadong (herbal spirit infusions) will be the highlight of a cocktail program at the café by Bangkok’s home of Thai imbibements, Studio Lam. Local street food outlets and celebrated eateries will be on hand throughout The Fields at all hours to satisfy the appetite of a whole village. Moobaan Wonder will be the host of the culmination of Wonderfruit and MSCTY Studio’s Sonic Elements project, a field recording an open call that saw professional and amaterur participants from 12 countries capture soundscapes for immersive art installations built under the themes of Air, Water, Earth, and Metal. The Wild Card Show, a wildlife trafficking awareness initiative by Wonderfruit and animators Fossick Project, will be screened each weekend to make noise for the plight of the pangolin. An updated and fully-functional farm demonstrates organic agriculture, and vast fields of flowers have been planted to set the scene for Instagram-worthy moments in nature.

Sustainability is at the heart of all decisions, designs, and programming—just as it is at Wonderfruit. The five-weekend event series takes place with a mind to reduce landfill to zero, a bold goal for a pop-up event attracting a vast audience. To achieve this, Moobaan Wonder will implement a ban on single-use plastics, separate all waste into its respective stream, and ensure that all material is sorted and supplied to operators who can generate value from waste. Biodegradable plates, cups, and cutlery will be returned to the onsite farm for use as fertilizer, food waste will be composted to nourish The Fields, glass and aluminum will be recycled into new products, liquids will be naturally treated, and coconut husks will be shredded to fertilize new growth on the same farm in which they’re grown. Staging structures and art installations will make use of locally-sourced and sustainable materials, and existing products from previous iterations of the festival will be upcycled and repurposed in construction.

Scratch First CEO and Wonderfruit Founder Pranitan “Pete” Phornphrapha sees Moobaan Wonder as a unique opportunity.

“This year, more than ever, our eyes have been opened even wider to what’s around us, and how we can all act in service to one another. Moobaan Wonder is an accumulation of our thoughts and feelings: an experience for everyone who came through 2020 with all its disruptions to come together and reconnect.”

With much more to be announced, Moobaan Wonder is shaping up to be a destination for all people in Thailand at a time when connection is essential and celebration is needed. Moobaan Wonder takes place from December 4–6, 11–13, and 25–17 2020, and January 8–10 and 15–17 2021.

Tickets are available online in limited quantities, starting at just 690 THB for a Friday Pass, 1,290 THB for a Saturday or Sunday Pass, 2,190 THB for a Weekend Pass, or 6,800 THB for a Full Season Pass to all five weekends. Discounts are available for students, institutions, and organizations.
