It’s an interesting moment in fashion: We collectively exist somewhere between at-home loungewear and full-on party mode. That intersection calls for both high-shine and raver looks, as well as comfort-minded oversized silhouettes and athleisure finding its way into evening (hi, catsuits).

It’s 2022 and we can’t wait to start a whole new chapter of trends. Borrowing some from last year and modifying others from the Y2K generation, here are all the top fashion trends for 2022.

The new variants of the Covid-19 virus might have dampened our enthusiasm for holidays and going out but we’re not going to let it ruin our chances of having a fashionable year. Bored of our loungewear staples, we are now looking at trends we can imbibe into our wardrobes for 2022. The good news: the trend forecast is seeing a lot of repeaters like corsets, miniskirts and cut-outs. So, rehash your wardrobe from the early 2000s to 2001 and shell out clothes that match the fashion trends for 2022.

CATSUITS

The catsuit is one of the year’s most unexpected trends to emerge. But lest you relegate it to runway only (as seen multiple times on Saint Laurent’s and at Burberry)—know that everyone from Hailey Bieber to Lizzo has already worn it out in the wild. It’s like your favorite yoga one-piece got a sudden after-dark update.

BIG JACKETS

Tiny blazers not your vibe? Big, boxy jackets aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Executed best in black, they work well in tan and white too. Pair with denim, easy skirts, knit dresses, or coordinating pants—in other words, almost anything.

OVER SIZED SHIRTS

A new silhouette seems to have emerged, and it’s as light and carefree as we want to be. The equation: a flowing oversized button-down, paired with flowing oversized trousers, buttoned insouciantly in the middle (as seen at Fendi and Peter Do and on Gigi Hadid).

LOW-SLUNG WAISTS

High-rise jeans may have dominated our wardrobes for over a decade, but come spring 2022 things get a whole lot more ’00s as the low-slung waist makes its way back to the forefront of sartorial conscious. They’re all about bearing the midriff, so there’s no trend value in opting for a low-rise and hiding it beneath a long knit. Opt for cropped tops for full ’00s drama.

BULKY BAGS

It’s officially time to end our love affair with micro bags, as next season sees the biggest, bulkiest totes take the handbag world by storm. Great news for those of us with endless ‘essentials’ that we’ve been struggling to stuff in our teeny tiny bags over recent years. Less good news for our posture.
