As communities around the world slowly begin to open their doors, the idea of future travel is beginning to inspire those at home. Airbnb internal data reveals early signs of future trip planning through search and wish lists created by guests ready to reconnect with each other and the world.

From poolside stays to private villas with self-catering amenities, travel is calling out to those who have stayed at home to protect themselves and those around them. As travel planning starts to rebound, here are the top trends fueling Thai Airbnb guests’ wanderlust.

Domestic Travel is Top Choice for Thai Guests
Travel might be restricted for now, but that isn’t stopping guests from dreaming of one-of-a-kind experiences. Thai travellers are looking local with domestic destinations within a 2-3 hour driving distance of Bangkok and proximity to the coast, dominating wishlists.

While Pattaya and Hua Hin top Thai travellers’ most wish-listed destinations, eight out of 10 of Thai’s wishlist domestic listings were in Hua Hin.

According to Airbnb internal data, the top five destinations searched for by Thai travellers are:
1. Bangkok
2. Pattaya
3. Phuket
4. Hua Hin
5. Chiang Mai

Thais top five wishlist destinations last year included Tokyo, Seoul and Osaka, showing the current mood of Thai Airbnb guests is for domestic travel.

Privacy and Amenities Drive Thai Travel Decisions
With cleanliness and hygiene ever-more important, Thai travel preferences are trending towards private stays with private facilities. This family-friendly, stylish villa in Pattaya with a private pool, garden and fully equipped kitchen is the most wish-listed stay for Thai travellers while this modern pool villa nearby the beach in Hua Hin ranked second.

Amenities at stays are also driving decisions with kitchen, wireless internet and pool being the most searched for amenities by Thai travellers. Pet-friendly stays are also proving popular, being one of the top 10 amenities searched for by Thai travellers.

Overseas Dreaming
Looking further afield, Thai travellers are favouring Asian destinations. With destinations in Japan and South Korea topping international searches last year, both countries remain popular with Seoul and Tokyo the most and second most searched for destinations by Thai travellers accordingly.
