Special immigration lanes have opened at five major airports to accommodate Chinese tourists.

As of last Friday lanes dedicated specifically for Chinese tourists were introduced at Bangkok’s international airport.

This is aimed to win back the confidence that may have taken a hit due to incidents such as the Phuket boat tragedy.

Chinese passport holders are now able to use any of 18 Chinese-only lanes at Suvarnabhumi. Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Hat Yai airports will soon have dedicated lines for Chinese tourists as well.

In addition to special immigration lanes for holders of Chinese passports, authorities are also considering providing multiple-entry visas. This would be more convenient for frequent travelers than the current system requiring a new visa on every trip for a stay of up to 60 days.

In the past six years, China has become Thailand’s top provider of tourists. In 2017, more than a quarter of Thailand’s 35 million tourists were from that country.
