Commitment, Quality, Family & Friendship…… Over a meal divided by wine!

Sounds good? It was and much more.

Coast Beach Club & Bistro recently held their maiden wine dinner event with Astrolabe Wines and the night was nothing short of spectacular.

An invitation I couldn’t refuse being I like good grub and a drop of wine.

For those who don’t know, Coast Beach Club & Bistro is located within Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort North Pattaya and is a beachfront restaurant serving a plethora of delights day and night, so the ideal setting, well for anything really.

If you have never been to Centara Mirage and in particular Coast, well, you’re missing out!

The hotel itself is stunning and a one of a kind resort destination and whether your a local to Pattaya or simply on vacation, I would say it’s a MUST’ visit.

Dining Under The Stars

After a short trek through a jungle path, lit by torches we were ocean side at Coast Beach Club & Bistro.

The team led by chef David Nowak had prepared a large table on the beach and from the very first moment we arrived I instantly knew this was going to be special.

The large table adored with white drapes had a rustic feel which only added to the intimacy and comradery that I’m sure all who attended enjoyed.

The night was co-hosted with Astrolabe Wines a company who take their name from a navigational device that translates as “star taker”, that was used by navigators to determine latitude by the stars which seemed very apt for the evening.

Astrolabe have been honing their craft for over thirty years and have established a benchmark style of wines that reflect an unparalleled diversity.

Careful site selection, expert picking decisions, delicate fruit handling and astute blending are their hallmarks, so it was a privilege to attend.

The four-course menu (paired with four wines and a welcome drink) drew its staples from Thailand and New Zealand ending with the Chef’s own a la carte Popsicle of Fig and Goats Cheese.

However, the evening started with a glass of Astrolabe’s Durvillea Marlborough Savignon Blanc 2017, which the evenings host Jane Forrest-Waghorn described as a white wine from grapes harvested at precisely the right moment to preserve the purity and intensity of flavour medium bodied with a citrus hint.

And this first drop set the bar high.

To accompany the first wine, we were also presented with a Thai rubbed snapper in a slaw of greens with a lime chili dressing, simply delicious and refreshing making your palate crave more.

Sophie McLernon an ambassador for Astroalabe Wines along with owner and managing director Jane Forrest-Waghorn not only introduced themselves but led the guests on a journey through the whole evening which spun like a fairy tale from start to finish explaining in depth their and their family’s passion in wine.

In between dishes we were also entertained with a spectacular music and fire show.

The second wine was Durvilea Marlborough Pinot Gris 2017 paired with grilled black and blue tuna tacos in chipotle mango salsa.

A medium-to-full-bodied wine with peach, melon and nougat flavours that leads to a dry finish.

We then leapt into a red Astrolabe’s Pinot Noir 2015 which was paired with a herb crusted lamb served with wild mushroom risotto, wilted spinach and a cherry vignette.

Personally,I’m red at heart so particularly enjoyed this decadent drop and the lamb dish it was paired with was a match made only at Coast, mouth-watering.

To end the evening chef David Nowak and his team had prepared a fig and goats cheese Popsicle.

The quirky and fun Popsicle dish was sweet, savory, unusual but ultimately delicious and summed the evening up as an unexpected delight.

This was paired which Durvillea’s Marlborogh Rose 2017 which s a favourite of the wine maker Jane and on first taste I realised why.

‘A perfect aperitif.’

In short, the evening under the stars at Coast Beach Club & Bistro was not only unique but special and with this being only the first REm can’t wait for the second.

This was the best wine pairing dinner I’ve been to. The food and wine were incredible

‘Did I hear the chef mention a gin night is next?……Stay tuned.
