IKEA Unveils Three New Designs from the Upcoming IKEA PS 2026 Collection, Blending Functionality with Playful Creativity to Brighten Everyday Living

IKEA Thailand has revealed the first three designs from the upcoming IKEA PS 2026 collection, offering an early glimpse ahead of the official launch in the near future. The three pieces reflect a design philosophy that blends practical functionality with playful creativity, featuring an inflatable lounge chair, a rocking chair, and a floor lamp with three adjustable lighting directions.
The IKEA PS collection was first introduced in 1995 in Milan, Italy, under the concept of “Democratic Design.” Since then, it has served as a creative platform for IKEA to experiment with new ideas. Across its nine previous editions, the collection has consistently presented contemporary Scandinavian designs that are both functional and widely appreciated. The tenth edition, IKEA PS 2026, is created under the theme “Playful Functionality,” emphasizing designs that not only serve practical purposes but also introduce playful elements that encourage interaction with everyday products.
Ahead of the global launch of the IKEA PS collection on May 13, IKEA has released a preview of selected products. The lineup includes an inflatable lounge chair and a rocking chair designed by IKEA designers Mikael Axelsson and Marta Krupińska, as well as a floor lamp with three adjustable light directions designed by Lex Pott, a Rotterdam-based designer.
One of the highlights is the inflatable lounge chair, a concept IKEA has been exploring since the 1990s before finally bringing it to life in this collection. The chair features two air chambers connected by a chrome frame, offering both stability and lightweight convenience, while also being easy to store. It comes in an emerald green fabric cover, includes a foot-operated air pump, and meets the same durability standards applied to IKEA armchairs.
Another standout piece is the versatile floor lamp, which can be rotated to function in three different lighting modes—as a spotlight, reading lamp, or uplight—allowing users to easily transform the atmosphere of a space with a simple turn. The lamp features a clean geometric design and is available in three colors: yellow-green, burgundy red, and cobalt blue.
The rocking chair clearly reflects the concept of Playful Functionality. Its gentle rocking motion provides relaxation, while it can also function effectively as a bench seat. Crafted from solid pine wood, the piece showcases natural wood grain and embodies the simple, warm aesthetic of Scandinavian design.
The IKEA PS collection will be officially unveiled globally on May 13, 2026, during Democratic Design Days in Älmhult, Sweden, the birthplace of the collection. In Thailand, IKEA is also preparing to launch the IKEA PS collection in full, with more updates to be announced soon.
