Hilton has officially announced the opening of Kahavadi Chiang Rai, Curio Collection by Hilton, the first Curio Collection lifestyle resort in Northern Thailand, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s continued expansion into culturally distinctive destinations.

The opening reinforces Hilton’s strategy to grow its portfolio in locations defined by strong cultural identity, offering guests immersive stays that reflect the stories, traditions, and local wisdom of Chiang Rai, combined with Hilton’s globally recognised standards of hospitality.

Located along the banks of the Kok River, Kahavadi Chiang Rai draws inspiration from the heritage of traditional Lanna merchant houses. The resort seamlessly blends Lanna-inspired design elements, riverside dining experiences, and curated local activities, creating a stay experience deeply connected to the destination.

“Chiang Rai represents an important step in Hilton’s growth in Thailand and Southeast Asia, as today’s travellers increasingly seek meaningful experiences rooted in culture, nature, and discovery beyond major gateway cities,” said Alexandra Murray, Vice President, Southeast Asia, Hilton. “The opening of Kahavadi Chiang Rai not only marks our first presence in the province, but also reinforces our long-term confidence in the enduring appeal of Northern Thailand. Through Curio Collection, we bring Hilton’s global hospitality expertise and award-winning loyalty platform into a property that tells a deeply authentic local story.”

Kahavadi Chiang Rai is located just a 10-minute drive from downtown Chiang Rai, surrounded by tranquil natural scenery and within easy reach of the province’s key cultural landmarks. Guests can explore iconic attractions such as Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple) and Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), as well as nearby destinations including the tea plantations of Doi Mae Salong, the misty viewpoints of Phu Chi Fa, the Golden Triangle, and the cultural heritage site of Doi Tung.

Designed as a modern interpretation of Lanna merchant heritage, the resort features soft white tones and curved architectural forms inspired by historic riverside trading houses in Northern Thailand. Traditional design details such as classical moldings, rattan furnishings, and wooden window panels are thoughtfully combined with contemporary Lanna craftsmanship. Hand-carved woodwork, woven elements, and natural stone accents bring the property’s heritage narrative to life, creating a refined riverside retreat rooted in the region’s trading history.

Kahavadi Chiang Rai also celebrates Northern Thailand’s creative identity through a curated art program showcasing works by artists from Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai across the property. The resort further highlights local craftsmanship with ceramic pieces from Heuan Patima Ceramics in Phayao, adding a distinctive cultural layer to the guest experience.
