MASON Holds Turtle Release for World Turtle Day under Slogan KIND OF WORLD MATE” Promoting Preservation of Sea Turtles and Rehabilitation of Marine Ecosystems

MASON has held an activity in which staff released sea turtles to the ocean and cleaned ponds at the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center of Sattahip, marking World Turtle Day under the slogan “KIND OF WORLD MATE” and seeking to promote conservation of sea turtles and the rehabilitation of marine ecosystems.

Sea Turtles are an essential part of biodiversity in the world’s oceans and act as indicators of balance and equilibrium under the sea. Recent changes to the world’s marine ecosystems are strongly correlated to a major drop in sea turtle populations with barely 10 turtle nests recorded annually. One sea turtle can lay approximately 70-150 eggs and data shows only one in every 1,000 of these eggs will result in a fully matured animal.

The decline in sea turtles has been tied to a number of factors, both natural and man-made, and includes the illicit collection of sea turtle eggs and encroachment on both their egg laying and feeding grounds. Such reasons indicate however, that we all can contribute to saving sea turtles from extinction using just our two hands.

MASON, as a resort located in Sattahip district, has chosen to be a part of the effort to promote sustainable development and joined hands with the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center to stage a sea turtle release activity in celebration of World Turtle Day. The Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center raises sea turtles from before hatching to when they are ready to be returned to the sea and also carries out research that informs marine conservation efforts. On the same day, MASON staff joined together to help clean the center’s ponds, contributing to the conservation of sea turtles under the slogan “KIND OF WORLD MATE”, and with a vision towards growing sea turtle populations for the betterment of the ocean and rehabilitating the entire global ecosystem.
