Renowned South African fashion designer Thebe Magugu will bring his distinctive Afro-modernist vision to Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town, with the debut of the exquisite THEBE MAGUGU SUITE in December, coinciding with the ten-year anniversary of his celebrated brand. Tucked along the iconic Palm Avenue, the newly reimagined suite, situated in a standalone villa, will offer an intimate sanctuary immersed in Thebe’s creativity – contemporary yet deeply rooted in tradition – whilst granting access to the hotel’s amenities and lush gardens. Adjoining the suite, MAGUGU HOUSE CAPE TOWN will launch as an atelier, showcasing limited-edition pieces and archival garments and accessories from the acclaimed designer. This dynamic hub will also act as a space for cultural exchange, salon-style events, screenings and exhibitions, as well as housing a thoughtfully curated selection of books, zines and objects celebrating African design, literature and craft. A new culinary chapter unfolds as Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town proudly announces the unveiling of AMURA by 3 Michelin Star Chef Ángel León – an immersive marine dining experience inspired by the mysterious beauty and astonishing biodiversity of the coastline, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Opening December 2025, this culinary destination marks the award-winning “Chef of the Sea’s” first restaurant outside of Spain, and his debut in Africa. Inspired by the Cape’s kelp forests which support incredibly diverse marine life, Amura promises a sensory journey through the lens of one of the world’s most visionary chefs. SLOW AFRICAN FASHION RETURNS TO MOUNT NELSON, A BELMOND HOTEL, CAPE TOWN, FOR ITS FOURTH EDITION OF CONFECTIONS X COLLECTIONS
This year, CONFECTIONS x COLLECTIONS (CxC) welcomes its fourth annual celebration of Pan- African “Slow Fashion”, curated by sustainability platform Twyg from 6 – 8 November 2025. The initiative debuted in 2022 with renowned inaugural industry names such as Sindiso Khumalo and Thebe Magugu. The following years the iconic Pink Lady hosted, amongst others, Lukhanyo Mdingi, Rich Mnisi and Lagos Space Programme. The past three years of CxC have afforded the legendary property a position as the contemporary cosmopolitan heart of Cape Town. Now a staple of Mount Nelson’s annual cultural calendar, this November CxC will culminate in a significant evolution – the launch of Magugu’s landmark project. For the first time, the event transcends the salon-style show, with Afternoon Tea in the hotel’s elegant lounge, to become a physical expression of creativity as fashion takes over a permanent space at the iconic hotel.
