Anantara Siam Bangkok Invests THB 1.6 billion in Major Transformation, Elevating Thai Luxury

Major Transformation Reimagines the Iconic Luxury Hotel While Positioning Bangkok for Continued Growth as a Global Destination

BANGKOK, THAILANDAnantara Siam Bangkok Hotel is investing more than THB 1.6 billion (approximately USD 50 million) in a major transformation designed to meet the evolving expectations of discerning travellers seeking exceptional quality and distinctive experiences.

Under the concept “Transformed. Timeless. Thai.”, the extensive refurbishment reinterprets Thailand’s rich cultural heritage and renowned hospitality through a contemporary lens. The transformation encompasses the hotel’s 335 rooms and suites, restaurants and bars, meeting and event spaces, public areas, and wellness facilities, reinforcing its position in the luxury hospitality market while supporting Bangkok’s continued evolution as one of the world’s leading travel destinations.

Mr. Torsten Richter, General Manager of Anantara Siam Bangkok, said: “The transformation of Anantara Siam Bangkok marks an important new chapter for the hotel and reflects our confidence in Bangkok’s long-term potential as a leading destination for travellers from around the world. The city has a powerful combination of culture, gastronomy, art, lifestyle and hospitality—qualities that create significant opportunities within the luxury travel market.

“This is reinforced by Bangkok’s ranking at No. 8 among 200 cities worldwide in the Global Tourism City Attractiveness Index 2026, highlighting the city’s enduring appeal and ability to attract international travellers. We believe this provides strong momentum as Bangkok enters its next chapter as a global tourism destination.

“At the same time, we are seeing a clear shift in the expectations of luxury travellers. Exceptional quality and high standards remain fundamental, while distinctive, meaningful experiences rooted in the culture of the destination are becoming increasingly important. This reflects the evolution of the modern tourism city, where competitiveness is measured not only by visitor numbers, but also by the ability to create experiences that are distinctive, meaningful and memorable.”

Preserving a Legacy, Reimagined for a New Generation

Mr. Richter added that one of the key objectives of the transformation is to build upon the hotel’s heritage and distinctive identity, developed over more than four decades, while responding to the expectations of today’s travellers.

Since opening in 1983, the hotel originally designed by renowned international architect George Wimberley has established a distinctive identity through its architecture, Thai art and craftsmanship, lush central-city gardens and signature Thai hospitality.

Among its most significant heritage elements is the 100-metre-long mural in the lobby, created by renowned Thai artist Paiboon Suwannakud, together with 19 ceiling panels depicting “Heaven in Thai Belief.” These defining features have been carefully preserved and maintained as part of the transformation, ensuring that the hotel’s original heritage remains intact while allowing it to be reinterpreted through a contemporary perspective.

At the heart of the transformation is the concept of “Thai Luxury”, bringing together Heritage, Design, Gastronomy, Wellness and Personalised Hospitality. Under “Transformed. Timeless. Thai.”, the hotel aims to express the spirit of Thailand in a contemporary way while elevating every aspect of the guest experience.

Key highlights include:

Rooms & Suites

All 335 rooms and suites, ranging from Deluxe Rooms to the Siam Suite, Anantara Suite and Presidential Suite, are being transformed with contemporary interpretations of Thai design. Rich teak wood, Thai silk and handcrafted details are combined with modern interiors, while bathrooms throughout the hotel are being upgraded with new marble finishes, lighting and fixtures to meet the expectations of today’s luxury travellers.

New highlights include the Anantara Garden Pool Suite, featuring a private swimming pool surrounded by lush greenery in the heart of Bangkok, and the newly designed Jim Thompson Suite. The two-bedroom suite is the result of a collaboration with Jim Thompson, celebrating Thailand’s textile heritage through teak wood, silk and artworks inspired by the legacy of the “King of Thai Silk.”

Gastronomy

The hotel’s culinary offering comprises nine restaurants and bars, spanning Thai, Italian and Japanese cuisine, steakhouse dining and South American-inspired flavours.

The portfolio includes Spice Market, Biscotti, Shintaro, Madison Steak Avenue, Guilty Bangkok and Aqua Bar, which has been recognised among Asia’s leading bars through its inclusion in Asia’s 50 Best Bars, alongside Mocha & Muffins, The Lobby and The Garden Terrace, offering dining and lifestyle experiences throughout the day.

MICE

The hotel’s meeting and event facilities are also undergoing a major transformation, led by the Grand Ballroom and complemented by a diverse range of meeting rooms and event spaces.

Combining Thai elegance with contemporary technology, the facilities are designed to accommodate a broad spectrum of occasions, from international conferences and corporate events to weddings and gala dinners.

Wellness

Extending the luxury experience beyond accommodation, the hotel is also transforming its wellness offering with the Anantara Spa and the new Siam Sport Club fitness centre.

The facilities will feature state-of-the-art equipment by Technogym, a dedicated Pilates studio, as well as spaces for Muay Thai, climbing and performance-focused fitness training.

“What we are doing is taking the values and spirit that have been built over more than four decades and reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens,” Mr. Richter concluded.

“Our aim is to preserve what makes Anantara Siam Bangkok meaningful and distinctive while ensuring it remains relevant and connected to travellers of every generation. This transformation marks the beginning of a new chapter one that protects the hotel’s remarkable heritage while moving forward with Bangkok and sharing the enduring values of Thai culture through exceptional Thai hospitality with travellers from around the world.”
