The MotoGP Thailand event, officially titled PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2024, is set to attract over 200,000 spectators. This year’s motorcycle road racing championship, MotoGP 2024, recently held a press conference announcing the event and introducing a new title sponsor, PTG Energy Public Company Limited (PTG), a provider of PT gas stations, PT Maxnitron engine lubricants, and various other businesses including the Thai Coffee brand, Coffee World, and the Autobacs automotive service center.
Dr. Pol Phum Wiphatphum, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Sports, stated that for four years, the hosting of the world’s biggest motorcycle racing event, MotoGP, in Thailand has significantly contributed to creating the image of “MotoGP, the Thai Way,” showcasing the beauty and cultural richness of Thailand. This has turned Thailand into a key destination on the motorsport map for racing fans worldwide who aspire to visit at least once in their lifetime.

“Hosting MotoGP in Thailand is a mega event that plays a crucial role in driving the economy according to the Sport Tourism policy. Last year, we had 179,811 attendees, with a 11% increase in foreign tourists, generating an economic circulation of over 4.493 billion baht from expenses such as travel, accommodation, food, drinks, and souvenirs,” he added.
Dr. Kong Sak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, mentioned that the demand for this year’s MotoGP is quite strong, leading to an earlier ticket sale than previous years. The organizing committee faces greater challenges each year as they aim to uphold high standards established since the event’s inception. An essential mission of the Sports Authority of Thailand is to develop Thai athletes to reach international standards. Last year, “Kong” Somkiat Chantra made history by securing a podium finish in Moto2, bringing pride to the entire nation. This year, Thai riders Somkiat Chantra in Moto2 and Thatchakorn Buasri in Moto3 will compete throughout the season, further enhancing the country’s reputation.
Mr. Narucha Khosasivilai, Governor of Buriram Province, remarked that Buriram has successfully used sports to stimulate local tourism. The MotoGP event last year created over 6,426 jobs for local residents and boosted the economy for Buriram and nearby provinces. This year, the province is fully prepared to welcome over 200,000 tourists, competitors, teams, media, and event staff over three days, enhancing all aspects of the experience to ensure the best possible service. The “Shuttle Tan” will showcase the assets and wisdom of local farmers to visitors from around the globe.
Mr. Ferran Junga, Senior Director of Global Sponsorships at Dorna Sports, expressed excitement about welcoming PTG Energy Public Company Limited as a main sponsor for the MotoGP. He looks forward to collaborating to promote this special MotoGP Thailand event further. This year, he is confident that the race in Buriram will be an extraordinary weekend filled with fun, excitement, and numerous activities for MotoGP fans.
Mr. Rangsar Pungprang, Assistant Managing Director of PTG, stated that PTG is proud to join the ThaiGP family, one of the best grand prix events in the world, showcasing the skills of Thai people. PTG will continue its sponsorship for three years from 2024 to 2026. They are offering special ticket purchasing rights for PT Max Card Plus members, granting a 25% discount, and a 20% discount for PT Max Card Prestige members at ticket sales points. They are also preparing exciting activities from PT gas stations and affiliated businesses, including Thai Coffee, Coffee World, and Autobacs.
