Dusit International Expands in Japan with the Debut of WE Hotel Toya, Dusit Collection in Hokkaido

Dusit International continues to strengthen its presence in Japan with the debut of WE Hotel Toya, Dusit Collection, marking the luxury brand’s first property in Hokkaido. Officially opening on 1 July 2026, the lakeside resort brings Dusit’s signature gracious hospitality to one of Japan’s most celebrated leisure destinations.

Located on the tranquil shores of Lake Toya, the resort is the latest addition to Dusit Collection—the group’s luxury soft brand featuring distinctive hotels and resorts that celebrate local culture, authentic design, and meaningful connections with their destinations.

Chanin Donavanik, Group Chief Executive Officer of Dusit International

Chanin Donavanik, Group Chief Executive Officer of Dusit International, said the opening represents another important milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy in Japan, following the successful launches of ASAI Kyoto Shijo and Dusit Thani Kyoto, both of which have been recognised with the prestigious Michelin Key distinction.

“Japan is one of Dusit’s key strategic markets, and we are delighted to introduce the Dusit Collection brand to Hokkaido,” said Mr. Donavanik. “WE Hotel Toya perfectly embodies the essence of Dusit Collection by combining outstanding architecture, a deep appreciation of local culture, and our signature Thai-inspired gracious hospitality to create meaningful and memorable guest experiences.”

Dusit Collection brings together a curated portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts, each distinguished by its individual character, thoughtful design, and authentic connection to its destination. Every property is carefully selected to reflect the people, heritage, lifestyle, and stories that make each location unique.

Nestled within the Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark in southwestern Hokkaido, WE Hotel Toya overlooks the spectacular volcanic caldera of Lake Toya. Surrounded by dramatic mountains, natural hot springs, and year-round outdoor attractions, the resort is approximately 100 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport, offering guests an idyllic retreat immersed in nature.

Originally opened in 2018, the resort was designed by internationally acclaimed architectural firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, renowned for landmark projects including the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo and V&A Dundee in Scotland.

Inspired by the surrounding landscape, the architecture harmoniously blends natural materials, warm earthy tones, and contemporary Japanese craftsmanship, creating a seamless connection between the interiors and the breathtaking lake, forest, and mountain scenery.

The resort features 55 lake-view guest rooms and three two-storey private villas. Each guest room, measuring approximately 37 square metres, is equipped with a private open-air bath overlooking Lake Toya, allowing guests to enjoy an intimate Japanese onsen-style experience in complete privacy. A spacious communal hot spring bath with panoramic lake views further enhances the resort’s wellness offering.

The culinary experience has also been thoughtfully elevated, combining refined Japanese gastronomy with Dusit’s renowned Thai culinary heritage while showcasing Hokkaido’s exceptional seasonal ingredients.

Ezo Cuisine, the resort’s signature restaurant, presents contemporary Japanese cuisine inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Hokkaido, serving both Japanese and Thai set breakfasts alongside seasonal dinner menus.

Guests seeking authentic Thai flavours can visit The Noodle Bar, offering signature dishes such as Tom Yum and Khao Soi.

At Taru Bar, Japanese ageing traditions are celebrated through a curated selection of premium sake, whisky, craft spirits, and specialty teas sourced from Dusit’s own tea plantation in Kyoto, while Toya Bar provides a relaxed lakeside setting for handcrafted cocktails and sunset drinks overlooking the water.

Reservations are now open. To celebrate the opening, guests staying between 1 July and 30 September 2026 can enjoy an exclusive 20% saving on room packages including daily breakfast and dinner.
