FREELANDER Maps Out Global Expansion, Starting in the Middle East Before Moving into Australia, New Zealand and Europe

Premium British Intelligent Mobility Brand Begins International Rollout in the UAE, with Australia, New Zealand and Europe Next
FREELANDER, the premium British intelligent mobility brand jointly developed by JLR and CHERY, has unveiled its international expansion roadmap at its official global brand launch in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on 29 September 2026.
The brand has identified the Middle East as the strategic starting point for its international expansion, beginning with the UAE before progressively entering other markets. The rollout will initially focus on left-hand-drive markets across the Middle East and North Africa, followed by right-hand-drive markets in Australia and New Zealand, before expanding into Europe.
The phased strategy covers product readiness, dealer network development and market-specific operations, establishing a strong foundation for FREELANDER’s long-term ambition to become a leading global automotive brand.

Starting in the UAE, Expanding Across the Middle East and North Africa
FREELANDER’s international rollout begins with left-hand-drive markets, supported by partnerships with two established UAE automotive distributors: Al Tayer Motors, covering Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Premier Motors, serving Abu Dhabi.
The partnerships form an important foundation for FREELANDER’s local sales and after-sales network. UAE customers can already register their interest in the FREELANDER 8, while product launch and vehicle delivery details will be announced through the brand’s official channels and partner networks in due course.

During the fourth quarter, FREELANDER plans to further develop its dealer network across other Middle Eastern and North African markets, including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Egypt, with additional left-hand-drive markets expected to follow in 2027.
The Middle East provides a natural starting point for FREELANDER’s international journey, reflecting both the brand’s character and the needs of consumers in the region. From urban commuting and family journeys to desert driving and outdoor adventures, customers increasingly seek a combination of comfort, intelligent technology and capable performance across diverse terrains.
The region’s extreme heat, dust and challenging road conditions have also played an important role in the development and testing of the FREELANDER 8. Features including the air-conditioning system, Sand Mode and cabin functions tailored to regional users demonstrate the brand’s approach of incorporating local market requirements from the earliest stages of product development.

Shifting to Right-Hand Drive: Australia and New Zealand
In the second phase of its international expansion, FREELANDER will move from left-hand-drive markets into right-hand-drive markets, with Australia and New Zealand identified as its initial priorities. Further markets will be announced at a later stage.
The driving lifestyles of Australia and New Zealand—from urban mobility and long-distance travel to outdoor and adventure experiences—align closely with FREELANDER’s combination of premium quality, everyday comfort and all-terrain capability.
Developing right-hand-drive models alongside local market partnerships will enable the brand to expand its international reach while adapting its products and services to the needs of customers in each market.

Entering Europe, Followed by the UK and Ireland
In its third phase, FREELANDER plans to introduce vehicles that meet European standards and regulatory requirements across selected markets, including Germany, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain.
The brand will subsequently expand into the United Kingdom and Ireland, bringing its distinctive British design character and intelligent technology to a broader European customer base.
Market entry timelines, product specifications and distribution models will be announced as the respective plans progress.

Building Long-Term Growth Through Global Engineering and Local Service
Product development for international markets will remain a key pillar of FREELANDER’s global expansion. This includes left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive vehicles, as well as models engineered to meet European regulatory standards.
Vehicles will also undergo development and testing to ensure they are prepared for the varying climates, road conditions and customer requirements of different markets.
At the same time, FREELANDER will continue to strengthen its dealer network, local teams and customer service capabilities alongside its market expansion.

As Ms. Lucia Mao, CEO of FREELANDER International, said at the brand launch: “A brand promise only becomes real when we deliver it in every market through the actions of our teams, our partners and our service.”
With a clear, phased global roadmap, FREELANDER is set to progress from the UAE into the wider Middle East and North Africa, followed by Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
As products and sales and service networks become established in each market, FREELANDER will take its “Beyond the Legend” vision to new destinations worldwide, delivering a distinctive combination of British-inspired design, intelligent technology and capable performance across diverse terrains.
