Move over, mulled wine, nothing says festive bonhomie like an on-point glass of spirits. Yes, the Christmas cocktail is here to stay.

Forget the gloopy, mysterious egg nog and dubious punch this year, it’s all about the retro classics and as many of us will be at home rather than in a bar or restaurant we thought we would share some recipes that will be keeping us Merry this Christmas.

Jack the Spy

Though “tawny port” might not be within your regular drinking vernacular, it’s as Christmas-appropriate as Scrooge. This drink doesn’t hold back.

Ingredients
• 1 1/4 oz. rye whiskey
• 1 oz. Croft 10 Year Tawny Port
• 1/2 oz. Aperol

Directions
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass. Stir thoroughly and strain over a big cube in a double rocks and garnish with a wide lemon peel.

Pink G&T

Fever-Tree’s Aromatic tonic is made with angostura bark, cardamom, pimento berry, and vanilla, lending a seasonal underbelly to your G&T. To really Christmas-ify it, toss in some cranberries and a spruce twig or two.

Ingredients
• 1 1/2 oz. London dry gin
• Tonic

Directions
Fill a highball glass with cubed ice. Add gin and top with Tonic. Garnish with lemon peel.

Grand Royal

Keep the festivities celebratory with a champagne cocktail, made a bit heftier with the addition of orange liqueur.

Ingredients
• 3/4 parts Grand Marnier
• 4 parts brut champagne

Directions
Add Grand Marnier to a champagne flute, then top with champagne. Garnish with an orange twirl.

Festive Margarita

Margs don’t have to be relegated to summertime drinking. This particular margarita invented a version that combines tequila, mezcal, and egg white for a wintery take with more depth.

Ingredients
• 1 oz. reposado tequila
• 1 oz. mezcal (like Del Maguey Vida)
• 1 oz. lime juice
• 3/4 oz. simple syrup
• 1 egg white

Directions
Shake ingredients without ice, then shake again with ice. Strain into a coupe glass and serve up with a salted rim.
