Showcasing the Ultimate Capability of GWM’s Next-Generation Off-Road Technology

GWM (Thailand) continues to strengthen its position as a comprehensive automotive brand offering products across all energy types to meet the needs of diverse customer groups worldwide under its “All Scenarios – All Powertrains – All Users” strategy. The company remains committed to becoming the most trusted Chinese automotive brand among Thai consumers and the number one Chinese automotive brand in after-sales service, delivering high-quality products, advanced technology, and customer care with transparency and dedication.

Most recently, GWM has returned to the Taklimakan Rally 2026, fielding an official factory team and recruiting internationally renowned drivers to demonstrate and rigorously test the performance, durability, and technological capabilities of GWM vehicles in one of the world’s most challenging natural proving grounds.

Taklimakan Rally: The Ultimate Test of Vehicle Performance

The Taklimakan Rally 2026 is widely regarded as one of the toughest rally events in the world. This year’s competition takes place from May 16 to June 3, 2026, in Xinjiang, China, covering nearly 8,000 kilometers in total. Approximately 4,200 kilometers consist of timed special stages spread across 15 competitive stages, supported by seven bivouac camps.

The route traverses some of the most demanding terrains imaginable, including Asia’s largest Gobi Desert and the unique Yardang landforms—wind-eroded ridges and rock formations characterized by long, narrow channels. Desert sections account for approximately 60% of the entire course. In addition, marathon stages have been incorporated into the rally to further challenge vehicle performance, drivetrain durability, and team endurance throughout the event.

GWM TANK and World-Class Drivers Put Next-Generation Off-Road Technology to the Test

For this year’s competition, GWM has entered several vehicles from its TANK lineup, including the TANK 300 Hi4-T, TANK 500 Hi4-Z, and TANK 700 Hi4-T.

These vehicles feature GWM’s next-generation off-road technology, which integrates a dedicated off-road platform with advanced hybrid powertrain systems. The rally serves as a comprehensive test of drivetrain performance, chassis and suspension durability, structural strength, and hybrid system efficiency under a wide range of demanding driving conditions.

Competing under the official GWM Factory Team, the company has assembled a roster of internationally acclaimed drivers, including:

Pau Navarro (Spain) – the youngest Dakar Challenger winner in history.

Nicolás Cavigliasso (Argentina) – a two-time Dakar champion across multiple racing categories.

Gérard Farrés (Spain) – a highly experienced competitor known for defeating factory teams as a privateer racer.

Rebecca Busi (Italy) – a rising star who continues to inspire a new generation of female racing drivers.

More Than a Race: A Long-Term Platform for Innovation

GWM emphasizes that its return to the Taklimakan Rally this year is far more than a short-term marketing campaign. Instead, the rally serves as a long-term platform that not only demonstrates the readiness of GWM’s next-generation off-road technology to compete at the highest levels of motorsport but also functions as a critical tool for research, data collection, and continuous vehicle development.

The extreme conditions of the rally provide invaluable real-world testing opportunities, enabling GWM to gather performance data and insights that are directly shared with its engineering teams. These learnings contribute to ongoing advancements in vehicle engineering and help further enhance the capabilities of future GWM products.

Through this commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, GWM aims to deliver vehicles that offer exceptional quality, performance, safety, and cutting-edge technology to customers around the world.
