Siam City Cement Public Company Limited (SCCC) announce that its Business- Environment- Community strategy is at the heart of its Net Zero roadmap with the group committing to reduce Ordinary Portland Cement production and prioritize high-quality hydraulic cements “INSEE Petch Easy Flow” and “INSEE Petch Plus” – the goal being to achieve full utilization of hydraulic cement by 2024 and support Thailand’s greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Mr. Montri Nithikul, CEO of Thailand Cement Business at Siam City Cement Public Company Limited (SCCC) said that “SCCC is working towards achieving net zero by emphasizing a three-pronged sustainable growth strategy – Business, Environment and Community. In addition to innovating and developing new technologies and products that meet consumer demand, SCCC is also fostering collaboration with our business partners, people and communities to encourage a greater involvement in this positive change.”

Reducing the proportion of clinker in cement from 74% in 2020 to 65% in 2030, in line with the International Energy Agency (IEA) directive to promote clinker reduction to 64%, is one of SCCC’s goals. And having already made progress towards this, combined with the increased use of alternative energy sources, SCCC has achieved a net reduction of carbon dioxide emissions to 607 kilograms per ton of cementitious material in 2022 – a reduction of 3.7% compared to 2020.

In recent years, SCCC has integrated technology that has delivered positive changes to its products, in particular a reduction in their environmental footprint. In 2021, SCCC was the first cement producer in Thailand to produce hydraulic cement and is currently transitioning its production from Ordinary Portland Cement to hydraulic cement. SCCC currently offer two eco-friendly hydraulic cement products: “INSEE Petch Plus” – a high-quality hydraulic cement designed for small-scale construction and precast concrete components such as blocks, pipes, beams and floors – and “INSEE Petch Easy Flow” – a replacement for Ordinary Portland Cement in general concrete construction and large-scale concrete structures such as high-rise buildings, roads, bridges and tunnels. Both products’ properties reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, contributing to long-term environmental benefits.

Mr. Serefin Bugeja, Senior Vice President Saraburi Operations at Siam City Cement added, “SCCC has improved the efficiency of its cement production through the Separate material Grinding process. This environmentally-friendly process reduces carbon emissions in the production of hydraulic cement maximizing the efficient use of raw materials. The Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) advocates for the transition from Ordinary Portland Cement production to Hydraulic Cement production by 2024 and SCCC is already working towards this through the application of modern, environmentally-friendly technologies which contribute to reducing the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.”

Continuously innovating and developing eco-friendly cement products, SCCC’s “INSEE Petch Easy Flow” and “INSEE Petch Plus”, together with 9 other eco-friendly cement products recently received the Type III Environmental Declaration (ISO 14025) from the International EPD® System. This label specifies the product’s composition and environmental impact throughout its lifecycle, adhering to the requirements of Product Category Rules (PCR), and has become a new global standard of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA).

SCCC continues to focus on innovation and the production of high-quality cement that meets the needs of customers while promoting sustainable development practices amongst business partners, people and communities.
