The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), together with government and private sector organizers, held a press conference for the 71st edition of the “Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair” (or “Bangkok Gems”), which will take place from February 22 to 26, 2025, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The event is expected to generate over 3.5 billion Baht in revenue.

Ms. Sunanta Kangwalkulkit, Director-General of DITP, discussed the significance of the event and the gem and jewelry industry: “The Thai gem and jewelry industry is one of the strongest sectors and plays a crucial role in driving the country’s economy. Despite global economic slowdowns and various challenges, this industry continues to thrive. In 2024, Thailand’s gem and jewelry exports, excluding non-monetary gold, amounted to 9.609 billion USD, exceeding the target by 10.99%. Thailand is the second-largest exporter of silver jewelry in the world and the third-largest exporter of colored gemstones. Furthermore, the export value of colored gemstones has doubled compared to the past decade. Major global mining companies such as Fura Gems and Gemfields have chosen Thailand as a venue for gemstone auctions, proving its success as one of the world’s key centers for gem and jewelry trade.”

The Bangkok Gems event is one of the most important platforms for showcasing Thai gemstones and jewelry to the world. It is the largest jewelry exhibition in Thailand, the oldest in Asia, and one of the top four largest jewelry fairs globally. The event is an essential meeting point for traders from around the world to negotiate and place orders. Over the past few years, Bangkok Gems has experienced significant growth across all dimensions. A survey conducted at the 70th edition of the event showed that both exhibitors and visitors rated the Bangkok Gems fair as number one compared to other global gem and jewelry exhibitions. This year, the event will be graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, who will preside over the opening ceremony.

In response to demand from exhibitors, the organizers have expanded the exhibition space by over 100 booths. Despite this, there was still a long waiting list after registration closed. This year, the event will feature 1,100 exhibitors from both Thailand and abroad, occupying over 2,600 booths. It is expected to attract more than 40,000 visitors from around the world.

Mr. Sumet Prasongpongchai, Director of GIT, co-organizer of the event, stated: “Bangkok Gems is renowned in the global gem and jewelry industry as a quality destination. In addition, we offer a wide variety of products, especially colored gemstones, with nearly 1,300 booths dedicated to them, which accounts for 50% of the total booths. This reinforces our position as the world’s center for colored gemstones.”

In addition to the product exhibition, the event will feature a variety of interesting activities, such as a Networking Reception, a New Faces exhibition zone showcasing new designers selected by various agencies and programs, including DITP, the Smart Jeweller project by GIT, and the Tak Provincial Commerce Office. There will also be academic seminars and an Export Clinic. Moreover, DITP and GIT have announced that they have received royal permission from Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana to showcase a special exhibition of jewelry designed by Her Highness, created by Thailand’s finest craftsmen, under the “AMOUR ÉTERNEL HAUTE JOAILLERIE” collection. This exhibition reflects Her Royal Highness’s commitment to preserving and promoting Thai craftsmanship and further elevating the Thai gem and jewelry industry on the global stage.

The 71st Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair will be held from February 22-26, 2025, featuring products from 1,100 companies, with over 2,600 booths occupying the entire exhibition space in Halls 1-8, both the G and LG floors of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.
