A jewel-toned sanctuary inspired by oriental healing, gemstones and Asian heritage

Global Luxury Hospitality Design Firm, LW Design Group has unveiled the transformation of the 207-square-metre Sanāra Spa at Grosvenor House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Dubai, reimagining the established wellness sanctuary as an immersive journey of colour, texture and quiet discovery.

Led by LW Design Group’s senior design team, Rachel Kidd, Brodie Kane and Casey Carillo, the refurbishment draws on the ancient wisdom of oriental healing and the symbolic energy of gemstones, unfolding through jewel-toned interiors, Asian-inspired craftsmanship and tactile natural materials to create a deeply atmospheric retreat that moves guests seamlessly from the energy of the city into a state of calm and restoration.

The transformation begins at the lift lobby, conceived as a sophisticated and neutral threshold between the residential lobby and the world of Sanāra Spa. A striking feature pendant, developed in collaboration with Vann Furniture, sits above a custom pop-of-colour host stand, establishing a distinctive focal point and setting the tone for the journey ahead.

A Journey Through Colour and Material

At the heart of the concept is the transformative energy of gemstones and chakras. Seven precious stones – Ruby, Honey Amber, Citrine, Jade, Aquamarine, Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst – inform the material and colour palette, allowing each space to develop its own character while remaining connected to the wider design narrative.

Warm timbers, soft neutral wall coverings and considered accents of teal introduce a contemporary interpretation of Asian-inspired design. Throughout the corridors, artworks and artefacts become focal points, with Buddha statues displayed within bespoke niches against gold-brushed bamboo, creating moments of visual discovery and a sense of escape from the city.

The Veil of Stillness changing rooms draw on the grounding character of Jade, pairing custom lava stone vanities with textured wallpaper and raw carved timber panelling. Within the Chambers of Renewal, each treatment room is attuned to a specific chakra through tailored colour palettes, scents and gemstone energies, expressed through lava stone accents, handmade Japanese Mittsu tiles and curated antique artworks.

Meanwhile, the Radiance of Renewal relaxation rooms take inspiration from Amethyst, with delicate purple fabrics and customised cherry blossom wallcoverings creating a softer environment for guests to unwind following their treatments.

Crafted in Texture and Tone

Materiality plays a defining role throughout the spa. Custom lava stone pieces and handmade Japanese Mittsu tiles bring depth and tactility, while carved timber and rippled glass screens balance the richness of the jewel tones with a more natural, raw quality. Detailed Pierre Frey fabrics introduce softness and pattern, reinforcing the layered material palette.

The furniture selection similarly brings together heritage and contemporary design. Existing antique pieces sourced from across Asia have been retained and thoughtfully restored alongside new Asian-inspired furniture featuring carved details, tassels, integrated lighting and mother-of-pearl inlay.

The result is a space that feels collected rather than newly assembled – an environment where craftsmanship, heritage and contemporary luxury come together to create a deeply immersive wellness experience.

A Sanctuary of Light

Atmospheric lighting and filtered daylight further shape the experience. Rippling glass and decorative resin screens allow natural light to permeate the interiors while subtly obscuring outside views, creating a sense of privacy and retreat. Rich textures, warm illumination and gemstone-inspired hues reinforce Sanāra Spa’s position as a hideaway from the pace of Dubai.

For LW Design, Sanāra Spa reflects a holistic approach to wellness design – one that considers not only how a space looks, but how it feels and unfolds over time. Through its considered combination of colour, materiality, heritage and craftsmanship, the renewed Sanāra Spa offers a contemporary interpretation of Asian-inspired wellness within one of Dubai’s established hospitality destinations.
