Price in Thailand: THB 865,000 (VAT included) Building upon the popular BMW R 12 nineT, the new BMW R 12 S is infused with retro racing DNA inspired by legendary victories from the 1970s – including BMW Motorrad’s historic wins at the Isle of Man TT and the 200 Miles of Daytona in 1976.
One of the most iconic features of the original R 90 S was its handlebar-mounted headlamp fairing with a tinted windscreen – elements that now return in the design of the BMW R 12 S. Further nods to the original include the contrast-stitched seat, and the striking Lavaorange metallic paintwork, inspired by the legendary Daytona Orange from the 1975 R 90 S. Additional sporty-retro details include the red “S” emblem on the side panel, twin red pinstripes across the bodywork, and brushed aluminum surfaces on the fuel tank and seat area with clear coating for a polished yet vintage look.
Performance & Engineering
At its heart, the R 12 S features a 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled two-cylinder, four-stroke boxer engine, identical to the R 12 nineT. It delivers up to 80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox housed in a separate casing. The R 12 S can reach a top speed of 215 km/h, offering exhilarating performance worthy of its racing heritage.
The tubular steel bridge spaceframe design eliminates separations in the front and rear frame sections, reducing weight and improving overall aesthetics. The result is a cleaner, sleeker profile.
Standard with the R 12 S is a full range of premium enhancements, including the Option 719 Classic II wheels featuring gleaming aluminum hubs and spokes, and the Option 719 Billet Pack Shadow comprising black-coated billet parts such as ignition coil covers, oil filler cap, and cylinder head covers in Avus Black Metallic Matt.
