Kalm wants to create a place that brings people together through the love of art, craft, and culture.

We believe in the ability of art, craft, and culture to educate, engage, inspire and empower.

Kalm Celebrates Community

Kalm Village is an Art, Craft and Culture Center in the heart of Chiang Mai Old Town.

Through means of architecture, objects, food, archive, workshops, dynamic exhibitions, residency program, happenings and conversations, our goal is to empower local wisdoms, makers and communities, through space and contemporary platforms.

Kalm Village is made up of 8 buildings, arranged around 2 central courts. Kalm Village’s architecture and interiors are a celebration of modern and traditional Thai design. Like a classical Thai home, Kalm comprises multiple houses that each serve a different function, linked by communal courtyards where families would traditionally gather for shared activities.

Our buildings are designed to be 2-3 stories to respect and reflect the surrounding context. The building materials are mainly dark grey bricks and up-cycled teak wood which came from old houses, pulled apart and reassembled into our design.

Kalm Village designs programmings to be interwoven together with art and cultural related programs and activities for seamless learning environment that have something for everyone and is suitable for our contemporary lifestyle. Through everyday activities, amongs craftswork and stories, we hope to be a small part to inspire, spark curiosity and encourage unconcious learning and appreciation for the art, crafts and culture.

“In order to carry on our ancestral wisdom, it has to be practiced all the time like a river flowing. The river will still be a river and not be left dry when the old stream flow on, and the new stream flow in to replace continuously.”
