Anantara Siam Bangkok Embarks on Historic Renovation with THB 1.6 Billion Investment to Elevate World-Class Hospitality Experience

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel has announced a landmark transformation project, backed by a THB 1.6 billion (USD 50 million) investment, marking a historic chapter in the hotel’s over 40-year legacy. The extensive renovation is aimed at enhancing every aspect of the guest experience, blending modern luxury with authentic Thai heritage.

The transformation will take place in two phases:

Phase One, set for completion by November 2025, will unveil a full range of newly renovated rooms and suites, including standard rooms, suites, and garden pool villas with private pools. This phase will also introduce a newly designed fitness center and swimming pool envisioned as an “urban oasis.”

Phase Two, scheduled from May to September 2026, will focus on the hotel’s lobby, ballroom, and the Parichart Court area, further enhancing the hotel’s grand spaces and event facilities.

At the heart of this transformation is Anantara’s commitment to delivering a world-class guest experience deeply rooted in Thai cultural heritage. Guests will be able to participate in curated activities such as morning alms-giving ceremonies, Khon mask painting workshops, Thai cooking classes, and Sak Yant (sacred tattoo) ceremonies, all designed to offer a truly immersive “Thai Touch.”

A Legacy Reimagined

Mr. Torsten Richter, General Manager of Anantara Siam Bangkok, remarked: “This transformation is a defining moment in the evolution of Anantara Siam Bangkok. It represents not only a continuation of over four decades of excellence, but also the beginning of a new chapter that will captivate global travelers and reinforce our position as a beacon of Thai luxury hospitality for the future.”

The hotel first opened its doors in 1978 as the Bangkok Peninsula Hotel, with founding stakeholders including Kasikornbank, the Crown Property Bureau, and Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. In 1982, it was renamed The Regent Bangkok.

In 2001, Minor International acquired 100% ownership and rebranded the hotel as Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, Rajadamri in 2003. In 2015, the property was renamed Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, becoming the flagship of the Anantara brand in Thailand.

A Thai Masterpiece in the Lobby

One of the hotel’s most iconic features since its inception is the large-scale mural painting in the hotel lobby, a vivid depiction of Thai identity and cultural history. The artwork illustrates the establishment of Bangkok as the capital and the founding of the Chakri Dynasty.

The piece was originally conceptualized by renowned contemporary Thai artist Paiboon Suwannaguud, also known as “Khun Kud,” one of the pioneering figures in Thai modern art. With a size exceeding 100 square meters, the mural required extensive time and dedication to complete.

Tragically, Khun Kud passed away just six months into the project due to a serious illness, before seeing the final masterpiece. The work was later completed by his daughter, Tawan Suwannaguud, who inherited her father’s artistic vision and completed the mural with precision and deep emotional connection.

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel’s transformation is not only a celebration of its enduring legacy but also a bold step toward shaping the future of Thai luxury hospitality—where tradition meets innovation, and every detail reflects the heart of Thailand.
