The construction of a new road to connect Mae Sot with part of the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) linking Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam is expected to be completed next month.
The Department of Rural Roads is accelerating construction of the 5.8-kilometre asphalt-concrete road that will connect with Highway 12 (Tak-Mae Sot), which will be joined to the second Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge over the Moei River, according to the DRR’s Tak office.
The new road will link the Tak-Mae Sot Road with a bypass of downtown Mae Sot. Construction is expected to be completed on Feb 10 this year.
The road, costing 36.2 million baht, will be of two-lanes with a hard shoulder of between half a metre and 2.5m on each side. Each lane will be 3.5m wide.
