The ‘The Story from the North’  campaign with Yaya Urassaya Sperbund reflects Norway’s as a seafood nation

Norway is a country known for its breathtaking views of the fjords and the unbelievable Northern Lights. For those less familiar with Norway the country is also the world’s number one producer of Atlantic salmon and one of the top exporters of seafood with cool, crystal-clear water, frigid weather and 2,650 kilometers of coastline.

Norway is committed to being a seafood country with many stories to discover through its centuries-old fishing culture that relies on people, nature with sustainability the main principle and lifestyle.

The Norwegian Seafood Industry Council (NSC) has now launched ‘The Story from the North’ campaign with Yaya Urassaya Sperbund the Thai-Norwegian actor who is encouraging Thais to try Norwegian seafood such as salmon, fjord trout and Norwegian saba.

Dr Asbyern Warwick Rörtvet, Regional Director, Southeast Asia, Norwegian Seafood Industry Council (NSC), said: “Thais are very familiar with Japanese culture and cuisine, as there are more than 2,000 Japanese restaurants in Bangkok, but few know that salmon, fjord trout, and Norwegian saba, the staples of sushi and sashimi, are all imported from Norway. We’ve been discussing ways to get Thais to get the right information that these fish come from Norway, not Japan as they understand it, but the challenge is that many people may not yet get a sense of what Norway is like or what it’s interesting about. This is where the idea of taking Yaya-Urusya to Norway and learn about our seafood industry comes in. To come back and share it with everyone in Thailand. There’s no one who’s more appropriate than Yaya.”

The 2:40-minute video clip ‘The Story from the North’ tells people’s stories about nature and sustainability through the eyes of Yaya Urassaya in her second home.

Yaya said: “This trip is a very touching trip, a memory that will forever be in my heart, it is a pleasure to go home and visit places like Lofoten, meet warm people, see amazing nature and learn a lot about Norway’s seafood industry. After returning from the trip I’m more appreciative of the food on the plate because I’ve seen the journey of fish since I was on the farm and the rigorous processes that focus on sustainability of the sea. Traditions and cultures rooted in people’s way of life and a deep respect for nature.”

Norway is the world’s number one producer of Atlantic salmon and one of the largest exporters of seafood. The country of seafood relies on the meticulousness and long-standing traditions of its people. Respect for nature and innovation for sustainability to become the world’s fisheries leader.
