Pebbles Bar and Grill renowned for its unparalleled service and uncommon sophistication was the setting for this wine and culinary feast and in full view of the ocean, dining and drinking at Pebbles is a delight for the senses.

Eikendal Vineyards, who are situated in the “Golden Triangle” of wine growing in South African where vineyards flourish in a mountain and maritime microclimate that is ideal for the production of quality wine were the wine-pairing hosts.

Known as innovators in the Western Cape wine industry with international acclaim in producing world-class wines Eikendal uses an “old world” approach that focuses on terroir to produce the fruitiest vines possible they blend modern viticulture with Old World winemaking. With an extensive range of wines Eikendal’s have an impressive history of outstanding results.

The score for the evening was classic and soulful melodies played by the talented saxophonist creating a playful yet soothing ambience that set the mood.

The dinner was made up of 5 courses each paired with a different accompanying wine.

The first course was a Scallop Ceviche with a Lemon-Herb Vingarette this was paired with Eikendal Cuvée Blanc Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay. The wine was very fresh with a floral fragrance that was rounded off with lively zesty acidity, an excellent white that paired perfectly with seafood, the combination of the wine and the seafood was lip-smacking both equally palatable and the perfect duo.

Next up was a South African Corn and Tomato Soup with Crab Meat, the comforting soup with crab meat and the added sweetness of corn was outrageously good a real soul-warming soup. The wine for this course was Eikendal Sauvignon Blanc, with a beautiful light yellow colour the wine boasted a tropical taste with a slightly fruity edge all finished off with a crisp acidity, a favourite at our table.

The fish course for the evening was Honey Glazed Salmon with Spicy Chakalaka paired with Eikendal Janina Unwooded Chardonay. This Honey Glazed Salmon was juicy, flaky, and so satisfying the sweet and tangy flavors were irresistible and the spicy chakalaka provided that needed kick along with a delightful combination of textures. The wine pairing was once again excellent the Unwooded Chardonay seemed softer and sweeter with a delightful, fresh and flinty finish.

The main event was Potjiekos from The Lamb Shank served with Pumpkin and Fried Confit Potato and our first red of the evening Eikendal Cabernet Sauvignon. The lamb shank potjiekos was an ultimate lip-smackingly delicious feast and the Cabernet Sauvignon (my personal favourite) a sophisticated and full-bodied red with an oaky taste and lingering aftertaste matched perfectly.

The finale a Chocolate Malva Pudding with Raspberry Coulis paired with Eikendal Charisma Shiraz – Petit Verdot Sangiovese. This fabulously sweet and rich malva pudding topped with the coulis was delighted and perfectly paired with the Shiraz, this bold, charming, seductive and ultimately elegant wine with a depth was the perfect wine to finish a splendid evening.
